Recipe Details

This Cream Cheese Fruit Dip is one of my favorite summer treats. It’s delicious with fresh fruit, but also with lots of other desserts, making it my go-to for picnics and parties.

  • TASTE: Sweet with a mild cheesy flavor and a hint of vanilla, this dip is a tasty companion for berries and melons.
  • TEXTURE: This Cream Cheese Fruit Dip is rich and smooth. Not too thick, it’s perfect for dipping or spreading on sweet treats.
  • TIME: This no-cook recipe only takes 5 minutes to make.
  • EASE: If you’re using an electric mixer, this recipe requires almost no work at all. It is so easy and quick, you’ll love it!

Ingredient Notes

  • Cream cheese- This ingredient is the base for your Cream Cheese Fruit Dip. Regular, full-fat cream cheese works best for richness.
  • Heavy cream- Cold heavy cream will thin out the cream cheese a little bit, making it the perfect consistency for dipping.
  • Powdered sugar- This adds lots of yummy sweetness. Don’t substitute granulated sugar because it will give the dip a grainy texture.
  • Vanilla extract- This gives the dip a hint of vanilla that goes nicely with the cream-cheesy flavor.

Add-ins and Substitutions

  • Substitute the cream cheese- Instead, you could use sour cream, Greek yogurt, or marshmallow fluff as the base for your Cream Cheese Fruit Dip.
  • Add cool whip- If you want a dip that is fluffier and lighter, then pair cool whip with marshmallow fluff for a cloud-like consistency.
  • Substitute brown sugar- Because of the graininess, you will either need to grind it smaller, or melt it into a simple syrup. But the rich, molasses flavor is a nice addition.
  • Add fruit- You can chop up maraschino cherries, add orange juice, or zest a lemon into your fruit dip for added flavor.

How to Make Cream Cheese Fruit Dip

  • Beat the cream cheese. In a medium bowl, add the whipped cream cheese and mix with anelectric mixer or whisk until smooth.
  • Add the other ingredients. Now add the cold heavy whipping cream, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar, and beat on low speed until you have a smooth consistency. Serve chilled with your favorite fruit.

Pro Tip:I like to use my handheld electric mixer to get super creamy cream cheese. It’s effective and a lot faster than using a hand whisk.

Cream Cheese Fruit Dip (2)

Recipe Tips

  • Use room temp cream cheese- The softer it is, the easier it will be to mix. If it’s too cold, it will make your fruit dip lumpy, and nobody wants that, right?!
  • Mix slowly- Make sure to mix on low speed when you add the other ingredients to the cream cheese. Otherwise, the powdered sugar will go flying everywhere.
  • Pick up speed slowly- As the fruit dip begins to come together, you can slowly pick the speed up until you have a nice smooth consistency.
  • Use cold heavy cream- This mixes faster and incorporates more smoothly into the whipped cream cheese. For more tips about dip recipes, check out this article

This was excellent! I should have doubled it. I used a softened block of cream cheese and I used Swerve powdered sweetener in place of regular powdered sugar. I served it with apple slices and strawberries and everyone loved it! Thank you!

I love this dip! I brought it to my daughters house knowing the only fruit dip they like is from festival. My daughter and grandson and granddaughter all loved it and were surprised to hear I made it! I just made another batch for us.

There are so many recipes for fruit dip but I needed something that I can throw together easy and control the sugar for my needs. This was the easiest recipe and tastes great. To be honest, I didn’t measure. I was impatient and threw my block of cream cheese in my Kitchenaid, then it loosened up with the whipping cream, which I added slowly. I had a tiny bit of powdered sugar left from Christmas. I tossed it in. Then, the rest of my vanilla. I’m working on my sugar intake but I always do a little extra vanilla, lol. Anyways, I got some nice plump strawberries to dip. Thanks!

Could I substitute honey for the powder sugar?

    Reply

    • Dina says

Hi Becky, I am not too sure since the powdered sugar helps thicken the cream cheese fruit dip. I am afraid that the honey will make it too runny.

I can I use cool whip instead of whipping cream?

    Reply

    • Dina says

Hi Linda 🙂 I have not tried using cool whip to make this recipe so I am not too sure how it would turn out. The cool whip is sweeter than heavy cream. I hope that helps clarify. If you give it a try please let me know how it goes! 🙂

This recipe did not work for me.
It never got thick enough to dip a piece of fruit on much less serve my guests . They instead had plain fruit
    I was totally embarrassed

Hi Christine, sorry to hear that. I have not heard of anyone having that issue. If you ever need to thicken up this fruit dip you can add some powdered sugar. I hope that helps.

where’s the heavy cream in the ingredients list? Also, 1/4 cup of vanilla extract??? seems a bit much…

    Reply

    • simplyhomecooked says

Hi Sheryl, I am so sorry I accidentally messed up on the measurements. It should say 1/4 cup heavy cream and only 1/4 tsp vanilla extract. I already fixed it in the recipe card. Thank you for bringing that to my attention.
